Vespas in the wild

Ridden not hidden by Vespamore !

I always enjoy coming across classic Vespas in London's motorcycle parking bays.

Here are a couple of examples spotted in February this year, a dark green late Primavera & an early 1st series ET3 Primavera in brown paint, which you don't come across that often.

These shots aren't always the easiest to compose, usually due to the subject being sandwiched between ugly, modern bikes/scooters but I like the challenge of trying to extract a decent shot where possible.

Shots were taken with my Olympus OM-2N on Kodak Portra 35mm film. More 'Vespas in the wild' I've taken in this set here

Vespa Freestyle - Nicola Campobasso

I got to see Nicola close up on his pale blue P-Range Vespa at Torino Eurovespa in 2006, on the way to the racetrack we visited just outside of Turin on the Friday of the 3-day event; I think he rode pretty much all the way there (approx 10km) on his back wheel only! Seeing this post on The Scooterist blog reminded me to mention Nicola's skills here on my vespamore blog.

Nicola hails from Empoli in Tuscany & has been riding vespas since he was 15 years old. At the time in the mid 1980s he & his friends enjoyed the freedom that comes with owning & riding a vespa & tentatively began trying out wheelies. Following his passion for Vespa & encouraged by the gathering public's interest in him, Nicola developed & honed his technique to a point where he was able to ride along a 2km stretch of road on one wheel & often while carrying a passenger!

Nicola has since gone on to make a living & a business for himself. He now has a full schedule each year attending various shows & events where he displays his unique skills. Nicola has also just made it to the semi-finals of Italia's Got Talent - see Thomas Bressani's interview with Nicola here

Visit Nicola's own website at where you can read his full story & see photos & videos of him in action.

Vespa Sprint Veloce - Prima Serie (restored & un-restored)

Piaggio Vespa 125 Sprint Veloce - 1968 by Maurizio Boi

This is how my vespa would look restored & re-sprayed in it's original Piaggio factory paint - Max Meyer Paint Code: "Metallic Silver" 1.268.0103 from 1969 or PPG code 103.

However being a fan of original condition paint & patina this is how I keep my Sprint Veloce...

Sprint Veloce by Vespamore !
Photographed by Niall from Retrospective. This was taken at his contact's place in Cattolica, just south of Rimini in Marche region, Italy, from where he sourced my Sprint Veloce. I had the choice of this one & the later blue Sprint Veloce on the right. I went for the earlier model, liking the fact it was a first series Sprint Veloce; the blue one needed some welding too.
