Leandro e Stefania

I got my latest film developed today which included the shots I took on a visit to Retrospective Scooters earlier in December, where I met up with vespamore fan Leandro Leanza and his girlfriend, Stefania Carapezza - see previous posts here and here

Other than spending a pleasant morning with Leandro, the highlight of this visit was this mostly original Vespa GL150 - to see the full album, click here

Feliz Navidad

#Alcañiz Nuestro Papa Noel en vespa y sidecar.

Great shot by José Antonio Bardají and very appropriate !!

I'll be taking a festive sabbatical with Mrs vespamore over the next few days and will pick up again in the new year. Until then, Merry Christmas one and all, thanks for all your support in 2014 and wishing you all a healthy and happy 2015 - safe riding ; )

Paolo Gamba

group of little indians

I came across these awesome shots by Zurich based Italian Architect-Photographer, Paolo Gamba taken in India.

Paolo has been generous enough to let me feature them here on vespamore and share them with you lucky people ..!

Et scootErs

Et scootErs

Discovered this hidden away Chelsea scooter shop recently.

I think they sell more modern auto vespas than classics, with one or two token cool classics like this Sprint in the window. With a workshop under the shop, re-sprays are offered, so I guess you could get your classic scoot sorted if required, more details on their website here -

Foto taken through shop window on iphone with 'instant' filter applied.

Classic Cool

I pass this silver PX every day on my walk from the Tube station to work in London. Nothing that remarkable about it really but always nice to see a classic geared vespa.

Took this on iPhone and messed about with effects; not that keen on doing this but as it was grey and overcast I didn't want to waste a film frame on it. I'll attempt it again on film when the light is better..

Retrospective visit

Yours truly captured by Leandro Leanza during last Monday's visit to Retrospective Scooters, see previous post Nice shot below also by Leandro, of this 50 Special with round headset fitted, replacing the square original headset. I would have kept the square headset myself but this is what the customer wanted. I took this lovely light blue 50 Special a few years ago in town, see here Loving the moody black & white vespa parts shot, I think this is great!

More of Leandro's photography on his Flickr photostream here also if you're on Facebook check out Leandro's Vespa - Sig. PX blog.

I'll post my own 35mm film shots from Monday's Retrospective visit with Leandro & Stefania when I finish my current film and get it developed.

Cushman GS150 VS5

Recently been in touch with the owner of this beautiful, rare Cushman GS150 VS5, which came about as said discerning owner just ordered a copy of my latest Retrospective Scooters book I actually shot this original paint GS on 35mm film back in May this year, when it was in for some maintenance at Retrospective Scooters. I really wish I'd seen this before completing the second edition of my vespa book, as it would have made a great inclusion; definitely one for the next book ...

The owner tells me that apparently only five hundred GS150 VS5s were badged as Cushman for the American market and seemingly as few as eight or less are currently now over here in the UK. This example was originally sold by the Boston Vespa Company, located off Commonwealth Avenue.

So nice to see this hasn't been stripped, shotblasted and re-painted when it's perfect as it is and retains its unique history and provenance.

I hope to get some more film shots of this lovely GS at some point in the near future but in the meantime you can see the shots I took earlier this year - here

Thanks to the owner for these photos and details and of course for letting me feature his GS on the vespamore blog ; )

Liking this latest Bonobo track ..

Missing my vespa ... currently at Retrospective Scooters awaiting fitting of new engine mounts and a couple of other minor bits.

Io, Leandro e Stefania

Io, Leandro e Stefania

Visited Retrospective Scooters today, my favourite classic scooter haunt. Haven't been for a while and met up with Italian friends Leandro Leanza and his other half, Stefania Carapezza. Like me, Sicilian Leandro, (hailing from Palermo, as does Stefania), is mad about classic vespas and photography.

These guys have recently moved to London and have been meaning to show Leandro around Retrospective for a while. Armed with his film & digital cameras and accompanied by Stefania, Leandro met me for coffee to chat vespas, Italia, life etc .. before having a root around the Aladdin's Cave that is Retrospective Scooters and of course to take some photos.

More to follow on this when Leandro & I get our films developed from today's shoot, watch this space...

In the meantime, you can see some of Leandro's excellent analogue and digital photography on his Flickr photostream - here

Cheers to Niall at Retrospective -

Great shot by Duc Le seen on Tuấn's Flickr stream, taken in Vietnam at a guess ..

Brilliant panning shot by engoplus, it's pretty difficult to pull off a good panning shot like this ..

Laurent Callot Photographies

Another fantastic shot from Laurent Callot via his FB page - here

Laurent has impeccable style and a great eye for a shot; I like his take on classic scooter pin-up shots which I think are classy, rather than tacky like many other attempts at this kind of shot ...

Scooter & style

Great shot by Laurent Callot, very cool, great style, looks like a Lambretta LD, here's an LD I shot on film in London a few years back.

I've featured Laurent's work on here before, see more of his excellent photography on his Flickr photostream - here & FB page - here

The Scooterist 2

Liking this film shot by Đá Nguyễn aka The Scooterist, see post here on The Scooterist blog.

Northern Soul - the film

I watched this the other night; if you haven't already seen Northern Soul, I can definitely recommend it.

I read Scootering magazine's interview with the film's creator/writer/director Elaine Constantine and didn't envy the long struggle she endured and overcame to get this film made. However, this makes the production all the more admirable and is a massive achievement I think. Apparently, many actors & extras gave their time for free to keep costs down, as well as Elaine getting help from generous friends investing their time to help out.

The lead character's whole 'going on a journey' and 'coming of age' did remind me very slightly of Jimmy's experience in Quadropehenia. Although, Phil Daniels' character begins & ends the film as a mod, if somewhat disillusioned by the end. Conversely, Elliot Langridge plays a young man introduced to Northern Soul through his local youth club and a persuasive mentor and is gradually drawn deeper by an increasing love of the music and scene. Some folk have dwelled on the drug use in this film; you do see a fair amount of amphetamines being passed around but don't most music movements/scenes seem to go hand in hand with the latest drug of choice? I guess the drugs were/are there for those wanting to seek them out, anyway I don't think it detracts from the film. The story line is quite straight forward but for me not having been old enough to be there, I thought the attention to detail in creating the scene with the music, the period clothes and general malaise affecting everyday life in mid-seventies northern England, was excellent. This a welcome departure from the usual Hollywood fodder we are often fed, I'll definitely be watching it again - soon!

Check out the trailer below ..
