Balkans vespa ride

I spent the train commute into London this morning reading Leonardo Lucarelli's epic account of his Balkans vespa journey on his classic silver Primavera, from his home in Northern Italy to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This is really well written; evoking the enjoyment, thrill and sense of adventure you get from touring and is visually enhanced with some great photographs. These were taken mainly by Valentino, Leonardo's travelling companion who was along for the ride, as well as his practical vespa knowledge. Some of the pair's highlights of the trip stem from the help and generosity afforded them by locals in moments of adversity, such as a broken carburettor manifold and seized piston rings. The roads and views look amazing and they also got to stay one night with a local family who share their dinner and give them a bed for the night - the kind of experiences money can't buy and remain with you long after ...

The July issue of Scootering is worth getting for this article alone.

The above shot is of a silver 125 Primavera I shot in central London a few years ago and like the one Leonardo and Valentino undertook their Balkans ride on.

Feeling good - new SIP t-shirts

Attempting to model the latest, new classic vespa t-shirt from S.I.P. Scootershop.

Sent gratis by the generous folk from the world's premier supplier of scooter parts, accessories and everything you need to get the most out of your classic scooter, plus lifestyle gear like this very nice shirt which I can genuinely say is a great fit, comfortable and made with quality materials. They also kindly sent me their new SIP branded BiC lighter

I wonder if the SIP team were feeling in a giving mood after being caught up in the euphoria of Germany's deserved World Cup win..! Not that I'm complaining and the least I can do is give the SIP team's new t-shirt range some promotion.

Check out the latest S.I.P t-shirts for both male and female scooterists via link - here

Beautiful Porsche 911 Targa I spotted the other day on lunch.

Custom VBB

Was invited down to Project13 recently to photograph this lovely gloss black/mat grey VBB they'd just finished. Lucky me got to shoot all 9K of this great looking scoot on 35mm film before being collected by its new owner.

Full album of shots I took - here

Hoping to get some more shots of the excellent work produced by Project13 in the near future, watch this space ...

Dennis Hopper: The Lost Album

Definitely want to see this exhibition of Dennis Hopper's photography taken in the 1960s while he was on a break from his acting career ...

Great shot from Paolo Ghidelli, a few more from Paolo - here

Smokin' ...!

Check this out from S.I.P. Scootershop and lighter manufacturer, BiC. A cool addition to a scooterist's kit for ciggie breaks en route to the rally and getting a brew on at the campsite. Also useful for getting the barbie lit and scooter inclined pyromaniacs!

Priced at only £1.20 and available to buy on SIP's website via link - here

Early P-Range

Nice early P-Range spotted on walkabout in London yesterday; had run out of film so did the honours with iphone. Quite like these with the plastic strips, tend to see these occasionally in beige and sometimes red, not so many in pale metallic blue.

More examples of vespas I've 'spotted in the wild', mainly in London over the last few years - here and some more in my own book - here

What people are saying about RETROSPECTIVE SCOOTERS

"There really are some fantastic images of machines in great locations/settings taken beautifully and sympathetically by Paul. Great to see so many vespas gracing the pages of a publication from the UK. My personal favourite? The Arthur Francis SS90, an absolute peach! Well done everyone for taking the time and making the effort, it was so worth while. Well done and good luck with the book Paul" - Graham Keat

"In my opinion, the first and second books both stand head and shoulders above most contemporary photography of vintage scooters ..... great shoots of great scoots ....... I'm flattered that my SS is featured in amongst so many lovely vespas. I know Paul doesn't do this for the money so he should be given a lot of credit for creating imagery that will be looked at for years to come" - Martin Sambrook

Only 200 copies each were printed of the first and second editions of RETROPSECTIVE SCOOTERS. The second edition is an expansion of the original project; over 70% of the images in the second edition are new and do not appear in the first edition. The first edition has sold out, however there may still be a few limited copies left at S.I.P. Scootershop via link – here

There are currently approx. 130 copies left of the second edition; it is priced at £29.50 plus postage + packing and can be ordered securely online via PayPal – here
